At Ding, we believe in the power of connection. Our Access for Good program turns your recharges into support for vital charities, like providing internet access for Greenlight Secondary School in Kenya.
35% of the world’s population has little to no internet. This figure increases dramatically when it comes to some who need it most, like the student population of Sub-Saharan Africa. Here, 90% of students have no internet access.
Today, technology is widely considered to be the “pen and paper of our time”, and while education without teachers is impossible, technology is an incredibly valuable tool in classrooms around the world. This is now more visible than ever in Greenlight Secondary School in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya.
Ding has partnered with unconnected.org to sponsor Greenlight Secondary School for two years. This partnership between Ding, unconnected.org, and the teachers of Greenlight Secondary School will empower the students to fully realise their immense talent and potential.
Now, students and teachers can now easily explore a wide range of online learning tools and resources.
For many years, Ding has been connecting people around the world to each other and indirectly to education by helping people top up and recharge their prepaid phones. Our partnership with unconnected.org builds on this to bring the same connectivity to Greenlight Secondary School.
Our donation will fund a high-speed internet connection for Greenlight Secondary School for two years. In the interest of sustainability and making the most from all donations, unconnected.org then sources hardware from refurbished device suppliers globally. This ensures quality access to excellent devices for even more students.
This is just one of the projects supported by Ding’s Access for Good initiative. This initiative has already supported the incredible efforts of the International Rescue Committee, Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), and UNICEF.
Throughout 2023, Access for Good and unConnected.org joined forces to enhance educational opportunities in Indonesia, Nigeria, and Malawi. Leveraging technology, this collaborative effort aimed to dismantle barriers and empower individuals in under served communities, paving the way for a more promising future.
We’re delighted to continue this support in 2024 and help the teachers of Greenlight Secondary School mold the future population of Kenya.
