MTN Share: How to Share Airtime on MTN

Setting Your MTN Share Pin

Before you can transfer MTN airtime, you need to change the default PIN from 0000. There are two ways to set your Share Pin; by SMS or by USSD.

Set MTN Share Pin by SMS

Create a new SMS with the following:

• [Default Pin] [New Pin] [New Pin]

  • E.g. [0000] [1234] [1234]

• Send this SMS to 321

Set MTN Share Pin by USSD Code

Instead of sending an SMS you can simply type the following in on your mobile phone’s keypad:

• *321*[Default Pin]*[New Pin]*[New Pin]#

  • E.g. *321*[0000]*[1234]*[1234]#

• Once typed in, hit “send” or “call” to submit.

Remember the PIN you set here as you’ll need this every time you use MTN Share.

Sharing Airtime with MTN Share

You’ll first need to make sure you have enough MTN Airtime to share. To check your airtime balance, you can use the USSD code: *556#

If you need more airtime, you’ll need to buy this. With Ding, you can request MTN airtime from anyone, anywhere in the world. Or, if you have family and friends in Nigeria, you can send them an MTN top-up.

Once you know you have enough airtime to share, here’s how you can transfer some airtime to other MTN customers. Again, you can use either SMS or USSD code.

Transfer MTN Airtime Using SMS

To transfer airtime to another MTN account, you first need to request the transfer and then confirm it.

Create a new SMS with the following:

• [Transfer] [Recipient’s Number] [Amount] [Pin]

  • E.g. Transfer 08031234567 3000 1234

• You will now receive an SMS asking you to confirm the transfer.

  • Send YES to 321 to confirm the transfer

Transfer MTN Airtime Using USSD Code

Transferring with USSD Code is slightly more straightforward and doesn’t require a confirmation step.

Using your mobile phones keypad/dialling screen:

• Dial *321*[Recipient’s Number] [Amount] [Pin]#

  • E.g. *321*08031234567*3000*1234#

• Once typed in, hit “send” or “call” to submit.

There is no confirmation step required from you when using the USSD code. You will receive a confirmation message to say the transfer has been processed.

Limits of MTN Share

There are a few things to remember when using MTN Share:

1. You can transfer between NGN50.00 and NGN5000.00 in a single transaction

2. You can transfer up to NGN500000 from your account daily. This can be sent to one other account or multiple

3. There is no limit to the overall number of shares you can do per day

4. You can transfer in Naira amounts only, not kobo. For example, you can transfer NGN100 but not NGN100.99

5. You must have enough airtime in your MTN balance to complete the transfer. If you do not, it will fail. Remember you can request airtime from anyone, anywhere in the world through Ding.
