#HomeTo Ancient Egypt

Ancient Egypt is believed to have taken place between 3100 BC until 332 BC. Most of the civilization lived along the River Nile. This was because of the Nile’s nutrient-rich silt on the land, allowing for excellent agriculture. Ancient Egypt was famous for trading. They exported goods such as grain, papyrus, and gold while they imported luxury items like ivory. At this time, Egypt was ruled by Pharaohs such as famous historical figures like Cleopatra and Tutankhamun. Ancient Egypt is also famous for the process of mummification as well as being home to the pyramids.

#HomeTo the Iconic Pyramids

Pyramids were built during Ancient Egypt with the purpose of being tombs to house Pharaohs in the afterlife. The construction of the pyramids is still not completely explained to this day. They would have taken years to build with The Great Pyramid of Giza taking up to 20 years. It is still a debate today on how the Egyptians lifted the blocks on the pyramids into place as the weigh several tonnes each. Internally, the pyramids had internal chambers where a pharaoh’s mummy was placed along with burial items including gold and jewellery. The Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx were chosen as UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1979. Today, the pyramids attract over 14 million visitors every year.

#HomeTo The River Nile

The River Nile is the world’s longest river stretching to 6,650km. Over 95% of Egypt’s population lives near the Nile due to its importance to the country’s agriculture and overall survival. Several hydroelectric dams have been built along the Nile, including the Aswan High Dam in Egypt. These dams generate electricity and help control flooding. Throughout history, the Nile has been a vital transportation route for goods and people. Today, it is still used for transportation, particularly in Sudan and South Sudan.
