We’ve connected millions of people all around the world, and we wanted to understand what part we’ve played in the lives of some of our customers. Meet Josefina, a valued member of our Ding community.
Born in Havana, Cuba in 1964, Josefina has always worked for more for herself and those around her. Whether it’s her two sons, her classmates back in school or her husband, Josefina puts the best interests of everyone she meets, first. We learnt this the moment we met Josefina.
“My childhood was very much a happy one. I grew up with a lot of love and care. My mission in life has always been to be the voice of the weak and for those who can’t speak for themselves.”
Growing up, Josefina thrived academically. Graduating from school at 15, she began working to help her mother. At the same time, she went to college to study Airline & Travel. She furthered her education through studies, in legal secretary and data entry work. Josefina would work by day, and study by night. She puts her determination down to the women in her life:
“My mom, her two sisters and my grandma helped raise me and my younger sister. Growing up with just women made me strong, just like them. I wanted to be a warrior, just like them.”
Following her studies, Josefina got married and gave birth to her first son Fernando, in 1988. 5 years later, Josefina gave birth to her second son Alfredo. Both sons were born prematurely:
“My first born had needed so much medical care and help, I decided to start a career in special education”.
The drive to help others continued for Josefina, who began working with elderly people in rehabilitation settings, hospitals, and nursing homes.
Today, Josefina is happily married to her “childhood sweetheart” who she first met at 14 years old.
“I couldn’t be happier”.
“I live in Miami, Florida. Life here is becoming more expensive by the day. Whether it’s rent, food, or other things. The cost of living is sky high everywhere.
I use Ding to support my family back home in Cuba. I have cousins and aunts who still live there, and I need to communicate with them.”
“I really enjoy using Ding. I found out about Ding online when searching for ways to send home support to my family who need it. When I found Ding, I was thrilled. It meant I could both support and communicate with my family at once.”
Josefina told us that her heart is in helping others. Women, the elderly, and those that need additional support.
We were founded to help those with less, gain access to more. Josefina does exactly that.
