“Ever since the day we met, we have been in love.”
This is how Ding customer, Catherine, begins her story about her long-distance relationship with her husband, Kelvin.
But this is not a straight-forward tale of romance.
Catherine lives in Vancouver, Canada with their two-year-old daughter while Kelvin is currently living back home in Honduras.
“Me and my husband met in Seattle through a mutual friend,” says Catherine.
“But Kelvin was deported not long after we met, so I flew to Tegucigalpa in Honduras and he asked me to marry him. I said yes!
“Life is a bit difficult for us but it’s worth it.”
But despite the distance, Catherine and Kelvin make that extra effort to keep in touch and their bond is stronger than ever.
“What makes him special to me is that no matter what mood I am in, he calls me and makes my day even better.
“He is what makes my eyes sparkle.”
But maintaining a long-term, long-distance relationship is never easy, as many of our customers can attest to.
In order to make things work, it is vital for Catherine that she gets to talk to Kelvin every day.
“Our tradition is that he calls me in the morning and at night before we sleep. It is important for us to hear each other’s voices in the morning and at night so that we feel connected because we are so far from each other.
“We see each other once or twice a year and I am saving to bring our beautiful daughter, who is now 2 years old, to go visit at the end of August 2016.”
Catherine uses Ding to regularly send recharge straight to her husband’s Tigo phone in Honduras in a matter of seconds.
