Helping kids in need in Zimbabwe: Lillian's Story

Lilian and her husband Don are from British Columbia in Canada and they sponsor orphans in Zimbabwe. Lilian’s story is one of our Ding story finalists.

A friend of Lilian and Don’s adopted a child from Zimbabwe and introduced them to the orphanage. In 2008, they visited it for the first time.

According to Lilian, “the children stole our hearts.” The couple began sponsoring two orphans, Katelyn and Tiffany. They returned to Zimbabwe in 2011 and met another child named Jonathan and decided to sponsor him too.

For the three children, Don and Lilian know they will be the closest thing to parents for them. They try and visit Zimbabwe and the kids as often as possible but as Lilian says it “is not often enough”.

“We love to keep in touch with them and so we purchased a mobile phone for them. Ding has made it so easy for them to contact us. We send them top-up and they send us smiles with their innocent little voices.”
