5 things Jamaicans miss when they live abroad

It is estimated that there are over 2.5 million Jamaican’s currently living abroad. Some move for work, some for love or some just to see the world. With all of these exciting new beginnings, there are inevitably home comforts that are truly missed.

With this in mind, we have put together a list of the top 5 things that Jamaicans miss when abroad.

1. Ackee & Salt Fish

Who can forget the delish taste that is part of so many Jamaican childhoods? With just one tastes, you are instantly transported back to the Island.

2. Swimming in the Summer Sun

There is no beauty that compares with blue seas or the golden rays hitting the water in Jamaica. From James Bond Beach to Puerto Seco, Seven Mile Beach to Dunn’s River no one can deny that a swim in the Jamaican water is incomparable to a swim anywhere else in the world.

3. Jamaican Patties

How do you eat yours? Whether it is with beef or chicken or even ackee, Jamaican patties are the best in the world.

4. The Weather

As any Jamaican in London will tell you, “Wi nuh like cowl”. We miss the sun! From the cold of New York in the winter or what seems to be constant rain in the UK, the tropical Jamaican weather cannot be beaten!

5. Friends & Family

We definitely kept the best until last! There is nothing more important to Jamaicans than good friends and family and when abroad and it’s undoubtedly what they miss the most. The Jamaican humour, compassion and good will to each other is something truly unique.
